Previewing the Backyard Brawl: Injuries, odds and predictions for LSU vs. Southern
In the first ever matchup of LSU and Southern University, the Tiger’s are looking for a performance to bounce back after a first week heartbreak. A last minute PAT miss against Florida St. damned the Tigers to their first loss of the season, and the first of the Brian Kelly era, as the Seminoles were able to stop kicker Damian Ramos’ attempt that would have brought the game, which ended 24-23, to overtime.
During the game, Maason Smith, a star defensive tackle, was hurt and has now been ruled out for the season. The sophomore from Houma, Louisiana tore ACL in his left knee during the game. Mehki Wingo is the most likely player to replace him. There are no injuries reported for Southern.
The Tiger’s are heavy favorites, according to WynnBet, with LSU -50000 favorites and are a 47.5 point favorite (-110). Southern would be worth a bet as the Jaguars were given a +2500 mooneyline.
LSU are certainly favorites for this game, but the real winner today will be Baton Rouge. The first ever matchup between these two historic schools has been a long time coming and will be a beautiful way to show the culture and community in the Red Stick.
