Preview and Pitchers for LSU v. Southern Miss. Game 7

Coming off of two comeback wins for the ages, LSU baseball had a reality check in its third game of the Hattiesburg regional, after the host team, Southern Mississippi, won in a rematch with the Tigers.

To start the tournament, the Tigers came back from a seven run deficit in the 5th inning against Kennesaw State to win the game 14-11 on Friday, thanks to excellent back end pitching and clutch batting from center fielder Dylan Crews and co.

LSU followed that up in spectacular fashion Saturday night, as they played Southern Mississippi, who beat Army the day before. The Golden Eagles started the game strong and by the eighth inning, had a 6-2 lead over the Tigers. LSU roared back in the bottom of the ninth by scoring 4 unanswered runs and eventually getting the game winner in extra innings, to seal the 7-6 win.

Jay Johnson’s team would be stopped in their tracks on Sunday, however, as Southern Miss took care of business in their elimination game against Kennesaw State and used that momentum to beat the Tigers 8-4 in a resounding victory.

Today, the Tigers face a must win against the Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg for the chance to host the superregionals in Baton Rouge. The starting pitcher for the Tigers will be right-handed pitcher Ma’chail Hilliard, who pitched 2.2 innings for the Tigers on Friday.

The Tigers will be facing Louisiana native Tanner Hall, who started and threw for eight innings against Army on Friday.

First pitch is at 3 p.m. C.T. on ESPN+.
