LSU’s Matt McMahon praises Adam Miller for leadership, recovery

With summer is full swing in Baton Rouge, LSU Men’s basketball is starting their preseason with teambuilding exercises (including going bowling) and light training. In the past few weeks head coach Matt McMahon has worked with his players to get them better acquainted as there is more than a dozen new additions to the roster.

As McMahon has become more acquainted with the team, he is starting to convey his want to have a team based around leadership from players not just the coaches.

“We’ve always heard player-led teams will be much more successful than coach-led team.,” McMahon said on the Jordy Culotta Show. “There are some good candidates like Adam Miller and Mwani Wilkinson, Justice Williams.”

Of the players McMahon spoke more about later in the interview was Adam “Ace” Miller. The junior guard was not able to play a single game last season due to an ACL tear in October of last year.

In an previous interview with the Jordy Culotta Show, Miller spoke glowingly about his new head coach and heavily credited him with keeping the energy of the locker room together and positive.

“Coach (McMahon) is doing a great job (with) players coming on time, players getting their job done, players coming in, showing a smile on their face,” Miller said. “We’re going to have a good program this year.”

Miller was ready to call it quits on the Tigers after his disappointing 2021 season and the firing of Will Wade, but McMahon was able to keep Miller on board. Since his change of heart, McMahon said he’s been impressed not only the skill level of Miller, but also with his intangibles.

“I’ve been really impressed with his work ethic and as I mentioned his basketball IQ. It’s just off the charts,” McMahon said. “(Miller) is an elite shooter with a deep range. A very skilled basketball player. My favorite part about him is how smart and how competitive he is.”
